Star Wars is the biggest film franchise in the world, yet its toy sales kind of had a slump in 2017. Due to the slump, Mattel's WWE wrestling toy line became the best action figure seller in the USA last year.

As posted on WWE.com, The NPD Group has confirmed that the WWE "had the No. 1 selling action figure line in the U.S. in 2017". It exceeded other competition such as Marvel, DC and WWE to achieve this impressive feat.

Casey Collins, WWE Executive Vice President said one of the strengths of the WWE brand is that toys are released all-year round.

Not to mention the company has a diverse brand with many wrestlers coming from countries all around the world.

Jason Horowitz of Mattel also commented that WWE figures are both loved by kids and adult collectors. He feels wrestling fans are the most passionate in the entire world which is why the toy line is always successful.

Mattel is not stopping the momentum in 2018 as even more new figures are coming later this year. This includes new designs plus wrestlers that don't have their own toy yet.

I'm pretty sure Mattel will soon make an action figure based on Ronda Rousey sooner than later. Ronda Rousey is expected to be the biggest wrestler on the WWE roster when becomes a full-time employee later this year.

It's hard to tell if WWE and Mattel will be able to stay on top again in 2018. Marvel could creep back up in toy sales thanks to the release of Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

Sadly, Star Wars will not reach the heights of The Force Awakens since Solo: A Star Wars Story isn't projected to get a lot of money compared to its predecessors.
