Steve Carell appeared on the Howard Stern Show Wednesday morning to talk about his new film "Foxcatcher", and Stern is confident that Carell is going to take home the gold for his role.

"I think Steve Carell's going to win an Academy Award for "Foxcatcher," Howard Stern said. He believes its a powerful portrayal, and that Carell hit all the marks.

"I wonder if he's thinking, 'Oh my god, I'm gonna get nominated'," Robin said.

This is Carell's first time taking on a role based on a real personality.

Carell plays John du Pont, a multimillionaire and wrestling investor who was convicted of the murder of wrestler, Dave Schultz. He believes it's the "darkest" role of his career.

Jenelle Riley from Variety Magazine reported: "With his chilling portrayal of a mentally ill man who commits a senseless murder, Carell has delivered the most serious, immersive performance of his career -- one that thrusts him smack in the middle of the most competitive lead actor Oscar contest in years."

"I won't be coy about it: to get nominated would be really, really cool," Carell said.

Stern is ready to begin planning a campaign for Carell, and is ready to spearhead the whole movement if Carell is uncomfortable chatting up the room.

He's considering an ad in Variety magazine with the tagline: "I Only Have 6 Months To Live."

As Stern and Carell chatted about the possibility of a nomination, Carell continued to repeat that it would be "really cool" to get an Academy Award for his role.

"I think he's afraid to say he wants to win," Robin said.

"I'll say it for you: 'you wanna win'," Stern said.

"Foxcatcher" will open in limited release in Los Angeles and New York City on November 14, and with Howard Stern as a good luck charm, the Oscar is as good as his.

"I feel you should thank me when you win the Academy Award," Stern said.

"I'll make you a deal. If that happens, I will thank you," Carell said.
