The world of "The Walking Dead" is a big one and the stories told on the hit series only show a tiny part of it.

That's a big part of why AMC has greenlit a spinoff, which will expand the universe for the franchise and show a different part of the zombie apocalypse experience.

Though detail of the new show have been hard to come by, a few hints have been released.

The series will take place in the same time period as the parent series, but it will not focus on the same aspects of the zombie apocalypse nor will it feature any of the original's characters.

This isn't "Frasier" moving to Seattle to spinoff from "Cheers," it's a whole new piece of the zombie-infested world.

Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Dave Erickson are all involved with "The Walking Dead" and will all executive produce the new series, CinemaBlend reported.

"In addition, Erickson is signed on as the showrunner for the pilot, which is fitting considering he co-created and co-wrote the pilot."

Shooting for the series is supposed to take place before the end of 2014 and AMC President Charlie Collier has offered a few hints about the premise.

"Fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world," he said,

"There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows.

Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill," Robert Kirkman, who created the comics and is an executive producer of the show, told Deadline.
