2017 has been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride in terms of great matches. On the main roster we've seen several good matches, but on the other hand we've also seen a lot of disappointments.

2017 has been a busy year for me, so I did not have the chance to watch every WWE and/or NXT event this year. However, I will try my best to show you guys my favorite matches of the year.

Bear in mind this is my own opinion so don't be sad if your favorite match is not listed here. Without further ado, here are my favorite WWE/NXT matches of 2017.

Honorable Mentions: The first honorable mention is the Elimination Chamber main event featuring AJ Styles vs Bray Wyatt vs John Cena vs Dean Ambrose vs Baron Corbin vs The Miz.

The chamber match looked cool because of a new design and extra padding to allow more high spots. I was a little disappointed AJ Styles lost, but it was a great match nonetheless.

The second honorable mention goes to AJ Styles vs John Cena at the Royal Rumble 2017 event. I actually preferred their SummerSlam 2016 encounter better as that was my favorite match last year.

The Royal Rumble match was good, although I felt that they used the same spots so it felt like I was watching the same match.

It's still a good match if you have never seen these two wrestle each other before though.

10) AJ Styles vs Randy Orton - Smackdown Live: To me this was a dream match and I was disappointed that their first encounter was on Smackdown Live instead of a major PPV. That being said, I still think this is an underrated and forgotten gem.

Styles and Orton have good chemistry with one another and I was hoping this would have been saved for the WrestleMania 33 main event. Alas, they still gave us a good performance even though it was not on PPV.

9) Tyler Bate vs Pete Dunne - NXT TakeOver Chicago: I will openly admit I missed the entire UK tournament so I did not even know who these two were at the time.

Well after watching this match, I became a fan of theirs instantly.

Bate and Dunne may be small, but they managed to give us an exciting and fast paced match unlike anything we usually see on the main roster.

Hopefully these two wrestle each other more often because they will always excite any crowd around the world.

8) The Usos vs The New Day - Hell in a Cell 2017: I think I have watched every Hell in a Cell match ever and I've seen everything that the wrestlers are able to do inside the steel structure.

However, this tag-team match opened my eyes because The Usos and The New Day found new and innovative ways to use weapons and the cage itself.

The two teams also always have great chemistry as most of their other matches have been good this year too.

7) AJ Styles vs Shane McMahon - WrestleMania 33: Before this match started, I was skeptical that McMahon was fit enough to hang with Styles. This is because Shane looked slow and tired last year against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32.

Shane proved me wrong and managed to have the best match at WrestleMania 33 with AJ. It's not as good as Shane's match was Kurt Angle back in 2001, although it was still one of the best opening WrestleMania matches I have ever seen.

6) Asuka vs Nikki Cross - NXT Women's Championship Last Woman Standing Match: It's great to see that the women in WWE/NXT are getting more exposure. The previous 'Divas' generation was disappointing because they didn't get much time to shine.

Asuka vs Nikki Cross prove to us that women can have great hardcore matches like the men can.

This match had a lot of high spots and was exciting from beginning to end. If you have not seen it before, go to the WWE Network and watch it now!

5) Finn Balor vs AJ Styles - WWE TLC 2017: It's AJ Styles again on my top 10 list. I cannot help it because he is without a doubt the best wrestler that the WWE has right now.

I loved this match because it was a straight up technical marvel more akin to Japanese wrestling than the WWE. These two managed to have a great match without needing to spam their finishers like (ahem) John Cena...

4) Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman vs Samoa Joe - SummerSlam 2017: Even though I like watching smaller guys wrestle from time-to-time, I also like seeing the big boys fight too.

This Fatal 4 Way match was very smash mouth and hardcore to the bone. It seemed like a match that would fit nicely in the Attitude Era. Not to mention each man managed to shine equally in the spotlight.

3) Asuka vs Ember Moon - NXT Takeover Chicago: The best thing about women's wrestling these days are that they are given a lot of time. This match was no exception because both Asuka and Ember Moon tore the house down.

I was on the edge of my seat watching this match because I was rooting for Ember Moon to finally dethrone Asuka. I usually like to cheer for the underdogs, so Ember Moon was my favorite.

Even though Ember Moon did not win the match, it was still an awesome contest and one of the best female WWE matches I have ever seen.

2) The Undisputed Era vs The Authors of Pain and Roderick Strong vs Sanity - NXT TakeOver WarGames: I never really watched WCW growing up mainly because it aired at 2:00am in the morning here in New Zealand.

I did not know what to expect from WarGames going in.

Well the young NXT stars amazed me for 36 minutes as this WarGames match was unlike anything I have ever seen in the WWE. I enjoy Hell in a Cell and Elimination Chamber matches, although admittedly those matches are starting to feel a bit stale.

Hopefully WWE and/or NXT stages more WarGames matches in the future because this was hardcore wrestling at its finest. A true gem you should check out now on the WWE Network!

1) AJ Styles vs Brock Lesnar - Survivor Series 2017: This was a classic David vs Goliath match and had the best storytelling of the entire year in my opinion.

Lesnar and Styles worked together really well even though this was the first time they have faced each other before.

Lesnar has been a bit lazy lately spamming German Suplexes and having matches that are 5 to 7 minutes long. However, I'm glad he put enough effort to make this match with Styles the best of 2017.

I think I have to give Paul Heyman credit because he is a fan of AJ Styles.

Heyman must have told Brock Lesnar to make Styles look good, and the end result was amazing.

Hopefully Lesnar is able to put enough effort into more of his matches going forward in the near future because he is still a great wrestler when he tries to be.
