Australian technical death metal band Psycroptic have debuted a stream of their new self-titled album on Decibel Magazine's website.

The new album carries Psycroptic's mixture of technical death metal, hardcore, and rich Gothic harmonies. Too many technical death metal bands streamline their tone until the primal, stomach-churning energy and dissonant alien melodies of death metal are polished to a radio pop sheen. This is no slight to pop music; mile-high stacked vocals and uber-clean arena-sized production is part of what makes pop's hooks so damn compelling.

But death metal, and extreme metal in general, typically requires a bit more grit to the tone to generate the knuckle-whitening dead-eyed intensity that makes it so compelling.

This is where Psycroptic continues to shine.

They alternate seamlessly between clean, ultra-fast technical riffing, blastbeat soaked tremolo picked riffs, heavier hardcore-influenced chugging grooves, wide-voiced complex harmonies, and vocals that come closer to hardcore's primal bark than a sterile death metal growl.

You can check out the new record here and preorder it here. Psycroptic's self-titled album is due out March 10 through Prosthetic Records.
