Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Release: Top Characters

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will hit European shelves on December 5, Nintendo announced today. The game will be released in America and Japan on November 21.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS has been a hit--selling 2.8 million copies globally in the short time it's been available. So, given the series' history, it is likely that Smash Bros. for Wii U will dominate the market as well.

The Smash Bros. formula has proven successful over the last few decades; video game stars duke it out in a free for all deciding the supreme champion of the Nintendo universe.

The original Super Smash Bros. game was released in 1999.

Featuring a modest roster of twelve characters--Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Link, Pikachu, Donkey Kong, Fox, Ness, Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, Samus Aran, and Kirby--the game's cast has expanded to feature legends from the SEGA universe, with Sonic the Hedgehog joining the cast when Brawl was released in 2008.

Smash Bros. for Wii U will feature a ginormous cast of 49 characters, 13 of which are new to the famed brawling franchise. All members from the original Smash game will be playable in the upcoming title.
