Star Wars is a powerful brand both in North America and many other countries around the world.

However, for some reason people living in China aren't really interested in the franchise as The Last Jedi opened in the country to underwhelming results.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Star Wars: The Last Jedi only grossed $560,000 in midnight previews which is way down from the $2.5 million that The Force Awakens got.

The Fate of the Furious earned $8.7 million in preview screenings last year and remains one of the top grossing foreign films of all time in China.

It's estimated that The Last Jedi will only get $5 million in its opening Friday making its debut only second this week in China.

The top grossing movie is The Ex-File 3: The Return of the Exes which is a Chinese produced comedy and it earned over $11 million on its second Friday.

The Force Awakens went on to earn $124 million in China while Rogue One dropped to $69.5 million.

It's entirely possible that The Last Jedi won't be making that much money in China since they don't seem to like the franchise as much as the rest of the world.

To be fair though, Star Wars is a relatively new franchise in China. This is because the original Star Wars trilogy wasn't released in the country until two years ago.

Due to this, the Chinese don't have decades of nostalgia for the series like in many other countries.

It's also worth mentioning there's no stars that they know of in The Last Jedi such as Vin Diesel or Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

Despite the low opening in China, The Last Jedi is still on track to earn around $1.6 billion at the worldwide Box Office.

Even though the film is getting divisive opinions from some fans, it is still making a lot of money.
