Star Wars: Episode IX is set to be rewritten with a new writer at the helm.

The original draft was written by the director Colin Trevorrow along with his partner Derek Connolly. At this moment, the film won't have to be delayed.

Anyway, The Hollywood Reporter broke the the news that Star Wars: Episode IX is now going to be written by Jack Thorne.

Thorne has many British TV series in the past including the likes of Skins, The Fades and many more.

Sources say Thorne has been brought in to get a pair of fresh eyes on the project.

It's unknown yet how much has to be rewritten with the draft that Trevorrow and Connolly already handed in. The movie's production is set to start in January 2018, so they have lots of time to work out script rewrites.

Episode IX is still set to be released on May 24, 2019. This is earlier than the December release dates for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

The script for Episode IX has had to go through a lot of rewrites now due to the death of Carrie Fisher. Hopefully they are able to sort everything out.

Speaking of Carrie Fisher, John Boyega (Finn) said in an interview with Popcorn with Peter Travers that The Last Jedi sends Leia off in an amazing way. This could be similar to the way Paul Walker was honored in Furious 7.

Walker died in real life, but his character had an honorable exit to the franchise.

Disney and Lucasfilm don't have any plans to create a CGI Princess Leia in future films. Luckily Fisher was able to finish all of her scenes in The Last Jedi though.
