Star Wars: Episode IX may mark the end of the new main trilogy, but this does not mean Disney will be stopping Star Wars movies altogether. Beyond the year of 2019, Disney will be releasing even more standalone movies.

As reported exclusively by Fantha Tracks, a source tells them that the next Star Wars movie in production will indeed be based on the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The scheduled release date for the film is supposed to be December 2020.

The report also says that the movie is already in "full pre-production mode at Pinewood Studios, England" with more teams joining the project.

More people are expected to be working on the movie after they have finished Star Wars: Episode IX which starts filming later this year.

Main filming for the Obi-Wan movie is scheduled for April 2019. Sadly, the documents that the Fantha Tracks have seen did not show any news about the cast of the movie.

However, Ewan McGregor has been vocal apart reprising the role after he got to play the same character in the Star Wars prequels.

It would make perfect sense for McGregor to reprise the role since he's much older in real life after Episode III concluded back in 2005.

As of right now, this is the only news that has been released at the moment for the film.

It's possible we won't hear any official news about the movie yet since Disney wants to concentrate first on Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Episode IX.

Not to mention the planned December 2020 release date for Obi-Wan Kenobi could also change. This is because 20th Century Fox has already pegged a December 18th, 2020 release date for James Cameron's 'Avatar 2'.
