There has been a lot of discussion as of late that James Bond should be different in today's society. Some people want a female version of the character, or at least someone that is not European.

Well actress Rachel Weisz is one individual that would like to see Ian Fleming's creation be left intact to his original vision. Weisz expressed her opinion on the topic while she was interviewed by The Telegraph.

[Ian Fleming] devoted an awful lot of time to writing this particular character, who is particularly male and relates in a particular way to women. Why not create your own story rather than jumping on to the shoulders and being compared to all those other male predecessors? Women are really fascinating and interesting and should get their own stories

Gender bending roles is nothing new as it has been done many times in the past. More recently, we received the first ever female Doctor Who just to name a few.

To be fair, there are many movies out there already that feature kick-ass female protagonists.

Last year we received Atomic Blonde starring Charlize Theron while this year sees the release of Tomb Raider and Red Sparrow starring Alicia Vikander and Jennifer Lawrence respectively.

As of right now though, James Bond will return in 2019 with Daniel Craig returning in what is expected to be his final outing as the British secret agent.

Weisz is currently married to Craig so she likes her Bond to be a man.

Time will tell if movie studios take the James Bond character into a new direction. The James Bond movie franchise is nearly 60 years old and is one of the longest running movie series of all time.
