The XFL was a failed American Football league that WWE owner Vince McMahon set up with NBC back in 2001.

Even though both WWE and NBC lost a lot of money investing in the league, it's heavily rumored that McMahon wants to bring it back.

Brad Shepard broke the news on his Twitter account stating Vince McMahon is interested in bringing back the XFL. Shepard says an announcement on the matter could be made on January 25th, 2018.

There are both pros and many more cons about Vince McMahon bringing back the XFL. McMahon is a risk taker, although I'm not entirely confident the XFL could succeed a second time.

Pros: Let's go over the positives of bringing back the XFL. For one thing, it allows American Football fans to be entertained when the NFL is off season. Some NFL fans get bored during the off season so another league could help them get entertained all year long.

Another cool thing about the XFL is that it creates jobs for aspiring athletes in the sport.

I watched the 30 for 30 special on ESPN about the XFL and many players appreciated getting a chance to play American Football even though they were not drafted by the NFL.

The other thing it can benefit are some cities in the USA. Not every city has its own NFL team so the XFL could enter markets that don't usually have a sports team of their own.

Cons: The biggest con is that it could be too expensive again. WWE and NBC lost $35 million each and the investment itself cost $100 million to pay for everything.

Sure Vince McMahon is earning lots of revenue thanks to the WWE Network and the industry penetrating more overseas markets, although he will still need a partner to help pay for it.

I highly doubt anyone wants to partner with him again since the XFL failed the first time around back in 2001.

Another thing I don't like about is that it could affect the quality of the WWE product itself.

I'm a professional wrestling fan and have been watching WWE ever since I was four years old. Even though the WWE is not as good as it used to be, I still like watching it every week.

If McMahon puts all of his money in the XFL, this could mean the WWE product could suffer.

McMahon already made budget cuts since there's no more pyro used in wrestler's entrances and the number of new WWE Network shows that have debuted has dwindled.

I hope McMahon instead uses the extra money to try and increase the popularity of the professional wrestling industry.

Can it work?: However if there is a silver lining to this, it might be good to bring back the XFL if it succeeds.

Professional wrestling is not as popular as it used to be, so McMahon might be wanting to chase a mainstream audience again with American Football.

If the XFL is successful for a second time, he could use the extra money towards the WWE and let Stephanie, Shane and Triple H run the wrestling side of things.

As of right now though, this is just a rumor as Vince McMahon has yet to mention anything yet.
