As the 7th Annual Shorty Awards for the Best in Social Media heat up, nominees are pouring in from across the web.

It's little surprise that Internet superstar and YouTube gamer PewDiePie would be nominated for an award in "Best YouTube Star of the Year."

The YouTube Star of the year is presented by A&E, and honors the best video producers on YouTube.

"With the use of social media, otherwise unknown personalities have become famous through YouTube with videos about how nerds would fight popular people, "epic" rap battles between famous people throughout history, and even auto-tuning current events," the Shorty Award official page explains.

There will be seven finalists in this category--3 chosen by a panel of judges, 3 from the public, and 1 wildcard nomination.

So far, PewDiePie (Felix Kjellberg) has a total of 16 nominations for Best YouTube Star of the Year. He also holds 37 nominations in the Gamer category, 7 nominations in YouTube comedian, 4 nominations in charity, and 2 nominations in comedian.

As of writing, PewDiePie has 34, 644, 222 followers on YouTube, and is arguably the largest and most lucrative YouTube celebrity. Last year, Forbes reported that PewDiePie makes $4 million a year playing games on the popular video website.
