Obama Manages To Disappoint Progressives One More Time

Throughout the Obama administration, there was no dearth of disappointments -- from the TPP to not pushing for the public option.

But it appears that he has managed to disappoint progressives one more time by not speaking out about the Muslim ban -- even though he had assured people that he would.

It was only a few weeks ago that Obama said the following in an interview:

If you can't watch the video, this is what he said:

If I think core values of ours are being threatened...I will -- I have said this -- if I thought a Muslim registry was being set up that violates the Constitution and violates who we are and would make us less safe, because it'd make it easier for groups like ISIL to recruit and radicalize homegrown terrorists: I might have to say something about that...

If I saw DREAM Act kids -- young people who were brought here as children, who are for all intents and purposes Americans -- suddenly being rounded up contrary to who we are as a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants I might have to say something about that...

Even though it wasn't a particularly strong statement at the time, it looks like he's not standing by it. While hundreds of thousands of people protest Trump's Muslim ban across the world, there has been no peep from Obama.

Where is Obama? He is reportedly staying on Richard Branson's private island in the Caribbean. Branson offered Obama his private jet and the use of the island.

Obama isn't off the grid, however. He has recently been seen in Instagram photos taken with Branson's staff.

This isn't the first time that Obama has kept quiet about Trumpism. Politico recently called Obama's strongest criticism of Trump "rap[ping] Trump's knuckles."

Update: Former President Obama released a short statement Monday afternoon supporting the protestors, which is rare from a former President.

The statement said that Obama disagrees with discrimination and defended the actions of Obama's administration.

This was a great move by Obama -- but then again, Kim Kardashian was able to speak out two days ago with an arguably stronger statement.
