Former President Barack Obama, along with his wife Michelle, are reported to have hired the Harry Walker Agency to represent them for paid speeches -- following in the path of Hillary Clinton.
You may remember that we previously wrote about the fact that Clinton -- after her devastating 2016 loss -- decided to return to the speakers' circuit. She very quickly went back to the Harry Walker Agency for representation. It is expected that she will continue to earn at least $200k for speeches, although it is also rumored that she is considering remaining in politics -- either running for Mayor of New York City, or entering the 2020 Presidential race.
According to Fox Business, the Obamas will be able to command even more -- $250k -- for their speeches. This is similar to the amount Bill Clinton. As you may expect, Republican George W. Bush earns significantly less. It's not yet clear who the speeches will be for, although Clinton famously did speeches for Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and GE, as well as non-profits and schools such as University of Connecticut.
The Harry Walker Agency is the most renowned of booking agencies, with hundreds of politicians, magnates, and celebrities. Other people that they represent include Bill Clinton, former House Speaker John Boehner, Dick Cheney, Al Gore, and Shaquille O'Neil.
The Obamas are also looking to beef up their book portfolio. Fox Business reports that they hired attorneys Robert Barnett and Deneen Howell to shop them around for book deals.
Books and speaking engagements are extremely popular for former politicians, as they aren't as objectionable as joining lobbying firms, but they still can earn the politicians as much in a couple of hours as they earned in their entire time in office.
