Today it was announced that Prodigy, of the rap group Mobb Deep, died at the age of 42. Mobb Deep had a storied career in rap music, having collaborated with some of the biggest names in the history of hip hop.

Mobb Deep started in the 1990s, when Prodigy joined up with a rapper named Havoc. The group went through multiple different names before settling on Mobb Deep.

The duo became well known after becoming a part of Puffy's Bad Boy Entertainment, and collaborating with its stars, including the Notorious BIG. That thrust the group into the center of the East Coast/West Coast rivalry. Mobb Deep also worked with Jay Z and other famous rappers.

Eventually, Prodigy went solo and released his own album. But his solo success never reached the level of success of Mobb Deep. Prodigy ended his career with a cookbook, among other pursuits.

According to The Squander, Mobb Deep made a lot of money during their time, but they never went on to reach the success of others in hip hop like Dr.

Dre, Jay Z, or Puffy. In the end, it was estimated that Prodigy had a net worth of around $12 million at the time of his death.

We wish his family well.
