Moana Is Now Getting A Maori Language Dub For New Zealand Audiences

Maori is a language native to New Zealand, although sadly the language is not spoken by many people.

European settlers who came to the country over a century ago made English the native language and it has been this way ever since. However, things are improving with a movie like Moana getting its own Maori dub.

Moana's screenwriter, Taika Waititi announced on Facebook that they are working on a Maori language dub for the movie.

Waititi himself is Maori along with Temuera Morrison and Jemaine Clement who also have Maori blood in them. You can read Taika Waititi's full comments on the announcement below.

Tena koutou. Walt Disney Animation Studios and Matewa Media are proud to announce that we will be dubbing a MA?ori language version of the movie MOANA! I'm so happy to be involved in this venture. We are now on the search for our very own reo MA?ori speaking Moana! Here's all the info about auditions, which we need by June 15! Mauri Ora!

If you live in New Zealand and know the language of Maori, this is your chance to become a voice actor.

You have to be talented for the role because you have to sound similar to Auli'i Cravalho who is the original voice actor. Not to mention you must have a good singing voice too!

This person has to be over the age of 13 and must be available in Auckland, New Zealand from 24th of June 2017 and the 12th of July 2017.
