Many people will know James Hetfield as the frontman and singer for the heavy metal band Metallica. Well the heavy rocker is going to test out his acting chops since he's now been cast in a movie alongside Zac Efron.

Metallica made the surprising announcement on their own Twitter page. You can read the details of his casting down below.

No rest for the wicked here as James filmed some scenes for Academy-award nominated director @joeberlinger for the upcoming film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, a movie that follows the relationship between notorious serial killer Ted Bundy & his longtime girlfriend.

Zac Efron is playing the role of Ted Bundy in what will be a challenge for the actor.

Efron is usually known for his family and comedy roles, so playing a real life killer such as Bundy will test out his acting repertoire.

This is the first time Hetfield is actually playing a character outside of himself in a movie.

The main reason he's been chosen for the part is because he already worked with director Joe Berlinger in the band's 2004 documentary film 'Metallica: Some Kind of Monster'.

It will be interesting to see how Hetfield will be able to act in what is essentially his first real movie role.

It's unlikely Hetfield will leave Metallica permanently if his acting career skyrockets after this role, but I would not mind seeing him cast in future films if he still wants to do it.

Since Hetfield already filmed his parts, this gives Metallica enough time to do more concerts. The band is currently on a worldwide tour to support the 2016 album 'Hardwired to Self Destruct'.
