According to Spin, Martin Scorsese's rumored film about The Ramones is in fact in the early stages of production.

The film is set to be a dramatized biopic, a departure from 2008's Shine a Light, Scorsese's documentary about The Rolling Stones and first foray into music.

However, no casting information has surfaced and Scorsese's representative, Michelle Margolis, insists that he is currently focused on other projects, telling Reuteurs that the project is in the "way way early" stages.

If the film is released in 2016, it will coincide with the 40-year anniversary of The Ramones' self-titled debut album, which is perhaps the most iconic of the rough New York City punk scene.

In this sense, there's probably no one better to explore the band's formative years than the guy who directed Taxi Driver.

Tommy Ramone, the band's last original member, died earlier this year of Bile Duct cancer.
