Star Wars: The Last Jedi director, Rian Johnson, has confirmed that Luke Skywalker is indeed the last Jedi in the movie.

There was some confusion among the fan base that the word "Jedi" can be a plural based on international translations.

Johnson confirmed this news while he was being interviewed by The New York Times. Luke Skywalker is the last Jedi, although that does not mean things could change by the end of the movie.

After all, it's expected Rey will be a Jedi very soon. You can read his comments down below.

It's in the opening crawl of The Force Awakens. Luke Skywalker, right now, is the last Jedi. There's always wiggle room in these movies -- everything is from a certain point of view -- but coming into our story, he is the actual last of the Jedi. And he's removed himself and is alone on this island, for reasons unknown

Speaking of Rian Johnson, he's an early favorite to be the director for Star Wars: Episode IX. This is because Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) mutually agreed with Lucasfilm to bow out from the movie.

It's rumored Lucasfilm wasn't happy with the script that Trevorrow was writing.

Lucasfilm are dead serious when it comes to the Star Wars movies and wants to make sure everything is perfect. Any imperfections won't save directors/writers from being fired.

Lucasfilm must be really happy with Star Wars: The Last Jedi because Rian Johnson has had no problems so far.

He's managed to direct and write the movie with not much backstage drama. Let's hope the movie turns out good as there is a lot of anticipation for it.
