Thanks to Disney ending Star Wars Rebels, there is now a vacancy when it comes to Star Wars cartoons. Well a new one has just been announced to replace Rebels and this series is called 'Star Wars Resistance'.

Lucasfilm made the exciting announcement earlier today on the official StarWars.com website. The series will focus on The Resistance good guy team just prior to the events that we saw occur in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

You can read a short synopsis of the series down below. It will make its premiere around the world later this year on Disney channels.

"An exciting new animated adventure series about Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. It will premiere this fall on Disney Channel in the U.S. and thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world."

Even though the series promises to have all-new characters for us to see, some familiar faces from the movies are also going to make an appearance.

Both Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie will reprise their roles as Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma respectively.

Not to mention everyone's favorite new droid BB-8 will also be appearing in Star Wars Resistance. Fans of Rebels will be happy to know that David Filoni is the creator of the series.

Aside from Isaac and Christie reprising their roles, some other new names are joining the cast.

They include "Christopher Sean (Days of Our Lives), Suzie McGrath (East Enders), Scott Lawrence (Legion), Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Bobby Moynihan (DuckTales), Jim Rash (Community), and Rachel Butera (Tammy’s Tiny Tea Time).
