Not a lot of New Zealand singers are able to break out to the International stage, yet Lorde managed to do that.

Lorde never forgets her NZ roots and was a part of this year's New Zealand Music Awards. As expected, she pretty much cleaned house and dominated the competition.

Lorde in total won six awards in one night. She won the following awards: "Album of the Year, "Single of the Year", "Best Solo Artist", "Best Pop Artist", "People's Choice Award" and an award for International Achievement.

Lorde wrote on Twitter a thank you to the fans and music industry in New Zealand. Her statement can be seen down below.

Tui shelf getting heavy at my parents' house. THANK YOU New Zealand for awarding melodrama, green light and myself six times this year. Also, a massive thank u to these gorgeous teen powerhouses from the Aorere College choir - have been a fan since i was at school & knew they would beautifully anchor this hometown performance of GL .

Lorde broke out worldwide thanks to her hit song called 'Royals'. Despite being a teenager at the time, she has a mature sounding voice.

Unlike some other New Zealand artists, she did not just become a one hit wonder. She continued to release new material and is still famous to this day.

Not to mention Lorde continues to be in the public spotlight as she is one of Taylor Swift's best friends. She released her second album this year called 'Melodrama' and it debuted in the top spot in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United States.

It was number 5 in the UK, and many of her singles have notched up millions of views/streams over on YouTube and Spotify respectively.

She is unlikely to be gone from the spotlight anytime soon due to her popularity around the world.
