It looks like the video game movie curse is set to continue because the release of the new Tomb Raider film is getting very mixed reviews. It's not the glowing success that Wonder Woman was back last Summer.

The review embargo for Tomb Raider has been lifted and many critics had a chance to write their opinion of it.

It seems as if the reception is mixed as it currently has a 51 percent rating on aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes.

As of time of writing, 61 reviews have been collected so far with 31 fresh ratings and 30 rotten ratings. You can read the critical consensus for the film down below.

"Tomb Raider reboots the franchise with a more grounded approach and a star who's clearly more than up to the task -- neither of which are well served by an uninspired origin story."

The average score given to the film was an average of around 5.2/10. This means a lot of critics would have given the movie a 2 or 2.5 rating out of 5 which is not great for a blockbuster like this.

To be perfectly honest, a 51 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes isn't too disastrous compared to other video game movies released in the past.

There's a chance that this could be a good foundation to build upon if a sequel is developed in the future.

Star Alicia Vikander was mostly praised for her work as Lara Croft in the film, but it sounds like most critics did not like the story and over use of CGI action sequences.

We are going to watch the film for ourselves very soon so look out for our own review of Tomb Raider. Hopefully it's better than most video game movies such as Street Fighter and Super Mario Bros!
