Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has been a surprise hit as it still stampedes over the competition despite being released roughly six to seven weeks ago.

Super Bowl weekend is usually quiet in the cinema, but Jumanji 2 still managed to get number 1 yet again.

As announced by Box Office Pro, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is the first film since Star Wars: The Force Awakens to receive four weekends at the top of the Box Office.

That said, it was not done in consecutive weeks, but still a big achievement nonetheless.

Jumanji 2 is estimated to take in $11 million in a weekend that most people will be staying at home watching the Super Bowl. The only major new release this week is Winchester which only grossed $9.2 million this weekend.

It's also worth mentioning that Jumanji 2 will become become the highest grossing movie for star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in North America.

The total gross for the film in North America is now $352.7 million which is just under the final gross of $353 million that Furious 7 got.

From a worldwide standpoint though, Furious 7 stays on top with a total gross of $1.5 billion. The worldwide gross for Jumanj: Welcome to the Jungle is $855.7 million.

Last week's number 1 Maze Runner: The Death Cure dropped to second place this weekend grossing $10.2 million. Its North American total now stands at $39 million with a gross of $182.6 million worldwide.

Anyway, Jumanji has been a huge success for Sony that a sequel is already in the works.

Sony is hoping to strike gold a second time because the sequel is being planned for release in December 2019 to come out alongside Star Wars: Episode IX.
