Even though Star Wars: The Last Jedi made a lot of money when it came out in December 2017, the movie surprisingly faced stiff competition from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Now it appears Sony wants to keep this winning formula with a new movie in the franchise also releasing alongside another Star Wars movie.

As reported by Discussing Film (via the Wall Street Journal), Sony chairman Tom Rothman wants to release a third Jumanji movie during Christmas 2019.

The movie will compete against Star Wars: Episode IX which recently got pushed back to the same season.

Originally, many people including myself thought Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle wouldn't make much money releasing just a few days after Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Amazingly, The Last Jedi did not make as much money as The Force Awakens and Jumanji 2 may have stolen a portion of the audience from Star Wars.

Welcome to the Jungle has quickly become one of the highest grossing films released in 2017 earning more money than the likes of Justice League, Logan, War for the Planet of the Apes and even Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk.

Star Wars: Episode IX was originally going to be released in May 2019, but the release date got pushed back when Lucasfilm fired its original director Colin Trevorrow.

JJ Abrams is now writing and directing Episode IX where it will release in its traditional Christmas season slot.

I have a feeling both Episode IX and Jumanji 3 could both be successful if they are both crowd pleasing films, Episode IX needs to make Star Wars fans happy since many were disappointed about The Last Jedi.

As for Jumanii 3, the film should keep the cast of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillian and Jack Black. The main reason the second film is doing so well is because of its likable and star-studded cast.
