Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is not even out yet, but there will be a third movie on the way.

Director and writer James Gunn will return to partake in the third movie of the franchise. This should come as great news for anyone that is a fan of his work.

A couple of weeks ago, it sounded like James Gunn wanted to work on something different after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 .

He hinted that he may want to move on to work on something new and fresh. However, it seems as if he has changed his tune.

James Gunn wrote a very long statement on Facebook confirming that he will return to make Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

You can read some of his comments below. It feels as if his love for the characters made him want to return.

So, yes, I'm returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the end, my love for Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Star-Lord, Yondu, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula - and some of the other forthcoming heroes - goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine, and I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit.

He goes on to say that the third movie could conclude "this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy". This means the team might look different if Marvel decides to make a fourth movie.

Maybe James Gunn wants to make sure there is good closure for the characters he grew fond of.

He did state he hopes the third movie will have an unexpected story like the others. He will be the first MCU director to do a trilogy.
