The long wait for The Incredibles 2 has been worth it because the movie has smashed a new record at the Box Office. The movie has now received the highest ever Box Office opening weekend for an animated movie.

As reported by Box Office Pro, the Box Office opening for The Incredibles 2 is over $180 million. This beats the previous $135 million opening weekend that Finding Dory received back in 2016.

It will be the second highest opening weekend in the month of June just below the $208.8 million gross from the first Jurassic World movie back in 2015.

Even when adjusting for inflation, The Incredibles 2 overshadows the opening weekend that the original 2004 movie got by a huge margin.

The movie is likely to have some decent legs as word of mouth for the film has been very healthy.

It received a Cinemascore of "A+" and currently has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 94 percent. If the movie can last a long time, it could have the potential to gross over $600 million in North America alone.

The only major competition that the Pixar movie will have to face is Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom which comes out finally in North America next weekend.

Other countries have already seen the Jurassic World sequel as it has grossed $370 million worldwide already.

That said, word of mouth for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is not as strong as The Incredibles 2 so next weekend should be an interesting showdown between the two mega franchises.
