For the past few years, Hugh Jackman said he would have loved to have played Wolverine in a movie where the character meets The Avengers.

This was not a possibility because Marvel Studios is owned by Disney while 20th Century Fox holds the film rights to the X-Men.

However, there are big reports coming in that Disney will be buying 20th Century Fox therefore allowing the company to finally use X-Men characters in the MCU. Sadly though, it sounds like Hugh Jackman is sticking with his decision to retire playing Wolverine in future films.

Jackman was interviewed recently by Collider and he expressed interest that a new actor gets the chance to play Wolverine in the MCU instead. You can read his comments on the matter down below.

It's interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, "Oh well, that's not gonna happen," and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline -- it was just the possibility of it and who knows what's gonna happen, obviously -- I was like, "Hang on!" But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.

There are rumors that actor Richard Armitage could be Jackman's successor in the role of Wolverine. People may know Armitage as playing Thorin the dwarf in the Peter Jackson directed 'The Hobbit' trilogy.

I think it's pretty noble of Jackman to step down and let another actor get their time in the spotlight. Jackman is already 49 years old, and he retired in style in Logan.

It will be interesting to see the X-Men finally joining the MCU. The future storylines for the characters meeting up for the first time could be epic!
