Avengers: Infinity War is set to be the big finale for many of the original MCU cast.

However it appears the original Guardians of the Galaxy team members will remain as their third movie has been confirmed.

The third movie in the franchise is set to take place after the events that occur in Avengers: Infinity War and its direct sequel.

This piece of news was confirmed by Guardians of the Galaxy director and writer James Gunn. He said on Twitter "No.

Vol.

3 will take place AFTER Avengers 3 & 4.".

This is kind of a spoiler as we get to know that many of the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy team survive the events of Avengers: Infinity War and the movie that comes after it.

James Gunn confirmed just a few weeks ago that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be be the final movie in the franchise to feature all original members of the team. This will include Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot.

He hinted that if future films are made, it might feature all-new team members in their place. Gunn wants to end his team as a trilogy.

There is no rush to make a third movie since Avengers: Infinity War and it's unnamed sequel will be out in the years of 2018 and 2019 respectively. The third movie will not be out until 2020 at the earliest.

As of right now though, there is still no release date for the film. Marvel Studios is focusing all of its efforts on Infinity War at the moment which is out next year.

Anyway, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.

2 does plant some seeds for potential future films during the five mid/post credits scenes that it has. You will have to be a big Marvel fan in order to know what they are referring to though.
