Universal Pictures has decided to change the release date for The Fast and the Furious 9. The movie will be delayed by one year in order to possibly make all of the cast members happy.

This report comes from The Hollywood Reporter. The original release date for The Fast and the Furious 9 was April 19th, 2019 but now the movie will be released on April 20th, 2020.

This could mean the 10th and final movie could also be delayed. The 10th film was supposed to be out in 2021 but that could now change to 2022.

There was no reason given to the delay, but it could be in order to please the cast members.

Firstly, Michelle Rodriguez threatened to leave the franchise unless the female roles were stronger. Universal Pictures might be working on the script to improve the women characters.

Another issue is the planned spinoff involving Dwyane 'The Rock' Johnson and Jason Statham. The spinoff was reportedly going to be made around the same time as The Fast and the Furious 9.

This made Tyrese 'furious' at Dwayne Johnson on social media because Tyrese wanted to make sure Johnson was still in the 9th movie. Now it seems as if Johnson can appear in both movies without leaving Tyrese behind.

The Furious franchise has exploded ever since the release of Fast Five. The movies started out about street racing, but then transitioned into all-out action after that.

The formula has worked as the 7th and 8th movies grossed well over $1 billion at the Box Office. China contributed most of the money as they love to watch Vin Diesel and The Rock kick butt.
