The Howard Stern SiriusXM radio show enjoyed a visit and a couple of performances from pop star Meghan Trainor. Trainor also talked about her introduction to the business and the message behind her hit song "All About That Bass."

Stern told his listeners that he was thrilled to have Trainor in the studio and jumped right into her musical background. He revealed that Trainor's father and uncle were both musicians and asked her if she was a singer at a young age.

Trainor told Stern that she was actually terrible until around the age of 17-years-old. She told Stern that she did not take lessons and learned by ear.

"Meghan said she didn't think she could make it because of her look. She said she wrote 'All About that Bass' and it was all on after that," according to MarksFriggin's rundown.

"Howard said Meghan would pick at her own skin and she was really insecure in high school. Meghan said there was Facebook and Instagram and it's just worse nowadays. Howard said she was performing at 12 with her family."

Trainor was 12-years-old when she began writing what she called "cute songs." However, she says the songs were not good.

What she really gained from it at that age was the formula for writing songs. Trainor entered a lot of song-writing competitions and learned everything she knew about playing instruments and song-writing from her father.

"Howard said Meghan got into Berkeley in Boston. She said that she went there for 2 years. She said she got a full scholarship and she turned it down," according to MF.

"She said her parents were fine with that. Meghan said she was in high school and got a publishing deal before she was done with school. She said she had to leave lunch to go sign her deal."

Trainor has actually written two songs that were sold to Rascal Flatts. However, Trainor wanted to be done with writing songs for other people and wanted to break out on her own.

"All About That Bass" was the turning point because of the overall reaction from the song. Stern also pointed out that Trainor is also responsible for Jennifer Lopez's "Ain't Your Mama."
