Singer-Songwriter, Ed Sheeran, is making his way to the TV screen. The musician was casted in FX's new medieval based show, "The Bastard Executioner."

Taking place in the early 14th century, the show will follow a knight in King Edward I's army. The knight will be visited by a divine messenger.

It will tell him to quit being a knight and instead become a journeyman executioner.

The show will be graphic, blood-soaked, and probably very epic. Sheeran will play a character named Sir Cormac, who is described as an "ambitious and deadly protege of a high-ranking church elder".

The show is Kurt Sutter's project. Sutter was previously the producer for "Sons of Anarchy." Sheeran worked with Stutter on SOA but in more of the musical way. The songwriter has written a few songs for the show.

He was a fan of the show and became a personal friend of Sutter's. Sheeran is excited to finally explore acting.

"I don't know how much I'm in it either, but it's definitely a few episodes, and I don't get killed off so that's good. I've always wanted to act in things."

Sheeran will be joining a cast fronted by Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) and newcomers Lee Jones and Flora Spencer-Longhurst.

Sutter will appear in period drama just as he once did on "Sons of Anarchy" and "The Shield." "The Bastard Executioner" counts Brian Grazer and director Paris Barclay among its executive producers, is set to launch this fall.
