DeviantArt--the self-proclaimed largest online artist community since its birth in 2000--has launched a redesign of key elements to their brand image and visual identity. Administrators are now calling for community members to help shape the future of the site's identity.

"Change is not something we take lightly, because it affects our collective identity." wrote Angelo (spyed) the CEO of DeviantArt.

"It was important for us to define who we are and what we're made of at our core before we changed anything.

We all have our own understanding of what that means, but the process of getting that core story down on paper took almost a year."

The result is the humble mantra: "Bleed and Breed Art." "It is the guide and the justification for everything, including our business partnerships, the development of the new app and the design of our new identity," spyed wrote.

While the general page structure and navigation of the site remains more-or-less than same, there are a few subtle, yet noticeable alterations.

For one, the traditional spelling of "deviantART" has been adjusted to be simply "DeviantArt," and the logo had an inspired, modern facelift.

The new logo is intended to be symbolic of this new, public stance DeviantArt has chosen to take in the art world.

"We love it because, like DA, people might not get it right away," reads an official statement. "Like all great art, it challenges perceptions and perspectives."

The logo was constructed using a 62 degree angle to cut letter forms, and designed for aesthetic perfection in various alignments.

DA has also designed a core color palette and customized typography for uniformity. Watch the evolution of the new logo, from conception to finalizations, in this YouTube video:

Deviants will be happy to know Fella--the DA mascot--isn't going anywhere anytime soon. DA maintains the fact of Fella's ever-changing face, and continues to encourage the community to keep him fresh. "He is yours and yours alone," administrators write.

A new mobile app was also launched in time with the redesign, and DeviantArt assures it's not simply a mobile version of the site.

It is entirely new way of accessing, submitting and exploring the community via your mobile device. The app will be available on December 10, 2014.
