Pawel Althamer is a Polish artist that treats themes including self-portraits and subjective human experiences. He created various art installations, one of his most important video series being 'So-called Waves and Other Phenomena of the Mind'.

This was formed by eight screens that broadcasted short films realized with another Polish artist called Artur Zmijewski.

The videos documented Althamer's experiments with a series of substances that alters the state of mind, from LSD to hypnosis, exploring the different psychological reactions that comes from them.

Althamer also treated the theme of awareness with the video 'Weronika' that narrates in a realistic way the birth of his daughter.

The video then jumps to consequent years and shows the two of them playing together in a park, showing how her different perception of life influenced him and changed his vision of the world.

The artist doesn't only work on artistic installations, he also creates incredible sculptures. His sculpture principally shows the human form under different states, like with his bronze Parys, that displays a research for the monumental and statuary shapes of the human body.

Or the grey sculptures that appeared in Venice and presented themselves as half human and half alien. Of every age, they interacted with each other, expressed emotions and perfectly played with both ancient tradition and contemporary life.
