In a world where comic books dominate the movie industry and Hollywood has every known comic book under strict lock-down, there are the artists that still inspire the stories of pages we have grew up with prior to the blockbusters.

It's no secret, big Hollywood has taken all the beloved characters of yester-year and made them into socially-relevant hits that children of this generation will only know them by. It has been said that Hollywood is always on the prowl for the next "big thing" in comic books and I guess for some people, that can be inspiring. I, on the other hand, like artists and writers who do their work for the love of the genre rather than the possibility of being discovered.

One artist I am closely watching is Xian Grey, a 32 year old freelance artist whose work has been handed off to actors such as Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) , Chris Harwick (The Talking Dead) and Doug Bradley (Hellraiser) . Did he hand off these fan art pictures in hopes of getting special notoriety? Not according to Xian as he summed up his fan art as this, "I love these actors and wanted to give them the artwork of genres they are fans of as well." In a nutshell, Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead is not featured in the graphic novel series as a character. Xian decided to draw him in the comic art style of Charlie Adlard and give it to Norman at a horror convention.

Norman was so thrilled to receive this piece that he told Xian he's hanging it in his daughter's bedroom.

Aside from fan art, Xian has been independently penciling sketches and comic book panels of his own creation. While he adores making fan art, he really is passionate about creating his own set of characters and is planning a series of comics for his main character, Gilgamesh.

Aside from his artwork, Xian is also interested in working in films both on and off screen and also models part time.

We are looking forward to seeing what this up and comer will have for the future of the independent art world.
