Movies are great when a lot of time and effort has been put into them. There's a reason why James Cameron takes a long time to make his films.

Christopher Nolan is another director that doesn't like to work fast with a strict deadline.

Christopher Nolan has directed many great films over the years including The Dark Knight Trilogy, Interstellar, Inception and Dunkirk. As reported by Deadline, Nolan commented during a BAFTA event the struggles recent directors have in today's movie landscape.

His comments can be seen down below.

That's a privilege and a luxury that filmmakers aren't afforded anymore. I think it was the last time that anyone was able to say to a studio, 'I might do another one, but it will be four years'.

There's too much pressure on release schedules to let people do that now but creatively it's a huge advantage. We had the privilege and advantage to develop as people and as storytellers and then bring the family back together.

Even though Nolan doesn't name specific movies/directors, his statement holds true. Warner Bros purposefully did not delay the release date of the Justice League movie mainly for financial reasons.

Not to mention Justice League was only made roughly 20 months after the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The average gap between movie sequels is usually 24 months or longer.

However, not every director has a proven track record like Christopher Nolan and James Cameron. Other smaller directors have to listen to movie studios or else they might get fired.

Disney/Lucasfilm has went through lots of directors for the Star Wars franchise. Nolan is right that there's aren't many opportunies for many directors these days to take their time making films.
