'Captain America: Civil War' Destroys Worldwide Box Office Before U.S. Release

If ever there was a sign of good things to come it was the weekend of May 1, 2016 for Captain America: Civil War. The film dominated the worldwide box office and is four days away from its U.S. release date.

"Ahead of its North American debut later this week Disney's latest Marvel release, the massively entertaining 'Captain America: Civil War' launched internationally this weekend to a phenomenal $200.2 million, setting multiple records including all-time industry opening weekends in Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines," according to
comScore's Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

"Notably, China-based title 'Finding Mr. Right 2' had a stellar $51 million debut in just 4 territories."

Big numbers overseas does point to what could be another record huge domestic box office debut for a Marvel film. The film starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and many more, is set to release on Friday, May 6.

The big surprise that Marvel revealed was the introduction of the new Spiderman which could also drawn big numbers.
