Pacific Rim Uprising may have been the number one movie this weekend, although Marvel's Black Panther reached another record breaking milestone this week.

The top grossing superhero movie list is constantly changing all of the time thanks to the popularity of the genre.

Anyway as reported by BoxOfficePro, Pacific Rim Uprising took the top spot this weekend in North America earning an estimated $28 million over its first three days.

This is actually a drop compared to the original Pacific Rim movie that got $37.3 million back in 2013.

That said, Pacific Rim Uprising is doing much better overseas as it had a pretty decent opening in China earning over $65 million. As it stands right now, the movie has now made over $150 million worldwide so far.

Bigger news is the fact that the top grossing superhero movie in North America has now changed. Marvel's own Black Panther has now earned over $631 million domestically overtaking the previous superhero champion The Avengers which grossed $623.3 million back in 2012.

From a worldwide standpoint, Black Panther has now got $1.237 billion. Chances are is that Marvel could break even more records of its own when Avengers: Infinity War drops on April 27th, 2018.

Pacific Rim Uprising's debut cut into the audience that went to see Tomb Raider last week. This weekend, Tomb Raider only made $10.4 million for a domestic total that now stands at $41.7 million.

However, Tomb Raider is popular overseas and China is again a contributing big factor. Lara Croft's worldwide total now stands at over $211.7 million so the movie should be close to breaking even with its estimated $90 million budget.
