When it comes to comic book film roles, sometimes movie studios like to cast big names.

We've seen this before with Ben Affleck as Batman and Will Smith playing Deadshot. However, Joss Whedon has hinted that we may see an unknown actress play the role of the standalone Batgirl movie.

Whedon talked about the casting process of Batgirl during an interview with Variety. He says right now he doesn't have anyone in mind to play the character and he doubts it will be a big name of any kind.

He is currently still on the lookout. You can read this comments posted down below.

I don't have my eye on anybody. I feel like I'm creating this character, i'm in a dialogue with her and then we'll see who joins that later on. I doubt there will be a name. I think this is something where you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her

In my opinion, this is a good move. Sometimes it's best to cast an unknown so the audience doesn't have preconceived notions on a particular actor/actress.

I've seen some articles in the past and they were throwing names around such as Emma Stone and Chloe Grace Moretz to play Batgirl.

Both actresses are good, although I still see them as the roles of Gwen Stacy and Hit Girl.

That being said, sometimes actors/actresses can reinvent themselves into a new comic book movie role. Ryan Reynolds, Chris Evans and Ben Affleck have all done that.

However sometimes casting big names can miss the mark.

Jesse Eisenberg is a good example since he was nothing like the comic book version of Lex Luthor. The same can be said about Topher Grace in his role as Eddie Brock/Venom in Spider-Man 3.

Anyway, hopefully Joss Whedon chooses an actress that looks and plays the part right. I would say someone like Jane Levy might fit the bill nicely.
