Star Wars: The Last Jedi came out earlier this week to widespread critical praise from professional movie critics and reviewers. However on the flip side of that, general audiences are not liking the movie at all based on user scores.

First of all, let's look at the score that Star Wars: The Last Jedi has on Rotten Tomatoes as the scores are very lopsided.

A very high 93 percent of critics have given the film a positive rating with an average rating of 8.2/10.

The audience score is far lower as only 57 percent of the audience like it giving it an average score of 3.4/5 stars.

This is one of the rare examples that the movie going audience is more harsh with their ratings than the critics.

It's not just Rotten Tomatoes where opinions are divided. If we look at the website Metacritic, we have a similar story of divisive opinions between the average movie watcher and the critics.

Again, critics praise Star Wars: The Last giving it a healthy score of 86/100. 51 reviews are positive with only 3 reviews giving it a mixed rating. There are currently ZERO negative reviews of the movie on Metacritic by professional reviewers.

The user score is far lower as fans have voiced their hate for the movie. It has a very low user score of 5.3/10 which is bad for a big blockbuster like this.

As of time of writing, 321 users have rated the film positively while only 100 users have given it a mixed rating.

On the opposite side, we have over 289 negative user reviews for the movie and many people hate what happens in the movie.

Even in my own household we are divided on the movie.

My brother and I loved the film watching it for the first time earlier this week as evident in my review. However, my other older brother disliked the movie much like many other people.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is far more divisive compared to Star Wars: The Force Awakens which was liked by both critics and fans.

That movie has a 93 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes by critics and a healthy 88 percent audience score.

As for Metacritic, The Force Awakens has an 81 percent rating from reviewers and an above average 6.9/10 rating from users. Unlike The Last Jedi, the positive reviews easily outweigh the negative ones.

I will not give any spoilers out, but I will say you have to watch the movie to truly understand why the movie is getting mixed receptions.

Some people like myself may like the bold new direction, while others may hate certain things about it.

It will be interesting to see how Star Wars: The Last Jedi will fare at the Box Office as word of mouth might not be pretty.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens did big business because people loved it and watched it multiple times in the cinema.

The Last Jedi could be different as several people may not want to watch the movie more than one time.

It's safe to say the film might not come close to the $2 billion that The Force Awakens earned two years ago.
