Purple Star Music Group singer Alexis Cunningham has been chosen as one of SiriusXM's "Fresh Female Voices of Country Music."

John Marks, SiriusXM's senior director of music programming, picked her song "This Town" to be featured on The Highway, channel 56 this week.

Three times an hour this week, SiriusXM's The Highway will play songs from lesser-known female country music performers, both with record deals and those without.

The idea behind the "Fresh Female Voices of Country Music" is to expose country music fans to a wide-range of female singers they might not otherwise hear.

Marks will monitor sales data, social-media activity, and streaming statistics to determine what could become a successful record.

"We are extremely proud and excited that Alexis was chosen to be a part of "Fresh Female Voices," and is being showcased as a potential breakout female country artist," said Mike Gendler, Producer and A&R Coordinator of Purple Star Music Group.

Cunningham, from West Virginia, has been singing and listening to a variety of music genres since she was a child. She taught herself to play the guitar at age 15 and since then has written and recorded her album, Love at the End of the World, released in January 2011.

She recently ended an 18-show summer tour in Sweden with Niklas Stromstedt and Eric Bazillian's Man Band and currently performs at different venues around Philadelphia and New Jersey.
