Normally you would think cinemas would want to show the latest movies in order to earn a lot of money.

After all, movie studios split the profits between themselves and the cinemas that show their movies. Well one cinema in Alabama is refusing to show Beauty and the Beast 2017 due to it having a gay character.

You may have heard recently that Disney is introducing its first openly gay character in Beauty and the Beast.

The character of LeFou (Josh Gad) has some romantic feelings towards Gaston (Luke Evans) who is the main rival of the movie.

However as reported by WHNT, Henagar Drive-In Theatre in Alabama has claimed on their Facebook page that they are refusing to show the movie. The initial Facebook page has been taken down, but we still know what was posted.

I am paraphrasing here as a lot was posted on their message. Basically on December 16th, 2016 the Henagar Drive-In Theatre went under new ownership.

The new owners have strong Christian values and they do not want to see anything regarding same sex couples.

The owners felt very uncomfortable showcasing this type of content to their 11 year old granddaughter and 8 year old grandson. As a result of this, they are not showing the movie in any capacity.

Due to the media coverage and exposure, the Henagar Drive-In Theatre deleted their entire Facebook page altogether. It's unknown if they will show the movie due to fan backlash, but it's likely they will stick to their Christian values and still refuse to show the film.

Disney has nothing to worry about since the movie is expected to be one of the biggest money makers of 2017. The movie itself will be released on March 17th, 2017.
