Akira is a classic manga beloved by many people and Hollywood has been trying to make a live action adaptation for many years now.

Well now it seems as if plans are coming into fruition as Taika Waititi might be in line to direct it.

This report comes from Deadline as Warner Bros. is currently negotiating with the New Zealand director to helm Akira. People might know Waititi for directing Thor: Ragnorok, What We Do In The Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople and more.

Warner Bros. is hoping to make two films based on the series.

Each film is set to cover 3 books from the manga each.

An animated Akira movie has already been made back in 1988 and is considered by many to be one of the best animes of all time.

Fans have been scared about a Hollywood version for a long time now, but hopefully Waititi can do it justice.

The main reason some fans are scared is due to white washing. Many anime movies have cast white actors in lieu of asian actors.

We've seen this with Ghost in the Shell, The Last Airbender, Dragon Ball Evolution and more. To avoid any controversy, Warner Bros. should cast asian actors as the main characters or else people might boycott the movie.

If Waititi does decide to make Akira, we may have to wait a while before we can see it.

This is because the director has already signed on to make a WWII dramedy called Jojo Rabbit. He's already been working hard on Thor: Ragnarok for the past couple of months which is out later this year.
