With news that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller being fired from the Han Solo movie, people have been wondering how much creative control recent Star Wars directors really have.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi director, Rian Johnson, weighed in on the topic.

Johnson addressed the topic on Twitter. He said: "I had as much creative control on TLJ as I've ever had on any of my own movies".

It sounds like Johnson was able to put most of his own vision into Star Wars: The Last Jedi without too much studio interference.

The same could be said about J.J. Abrams when he directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The problem with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller is that they may have wanted to change the tone and character of Han Solo.

Reports say they wanted to change the script that was written by Lawrence Kasdan.

Kasdan wrote many classics movies in his time including the likes of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Raiders of the Lost Ark and more.

Kasdan wasn't the only person that butted heads with Lord and Miller. Lucasfilm President Katheleen Kennedy also didn't see eye-to-eye with the pair too. All in all, it had to do with creative differences so Lord and Miller are now lobbying to direct The Flash movie instead. The Han Solo movie is still scheduled to be released in May 2018, but a new director will be named.

A name that has been floating around already is Ron Howard. It will be interesting to see if Lucasfilm manages to get Steven Spielberg on board.

Hopefully the Han Solo movie is still good despite the film needing to do a lot of reshoots. It's not often you see directors getting fired during the filming over a movie.
